Part Twenty: Return to the House of Glass

Location: MI5 Headquarters, Thames House, London
Objective: Debrief, regroup, and receive a new directive from Director Holloway. But something inside the agency has shifted—and not everyone is glad to see Ghost Veil return.

🕰️ 72 Hours After Reykjavík

The rain hadn’t stopped since they landed.

Emma stood in the debriefing chamber beneath Thames House, staring at the holographic projection of the Eidolon simulations recovered from Reykjavík. Cities falling. Governments dissolving. Order replaced by algorithmic control.

Jake leaned against the wall, arms crossed. “They’re not just planning collapse. They’re planning succession.”

Tess nodded. “And they’re accelerating. Buenos Aires is next. But we don’t know why.”

The door opened.

Director Holloway entered, flanked by two unfamiliar agents in grey suits—MI5’s internal oversight division. The air turned cold.

“You’ve stirred a hornet’s nest,” Holloway said. “And now the Cabinet Office wants answers.”

Emma stepped forward. “We brought you proof. Eidolon is real. KAIROS is active. And someone inside the agency is still feeding them intel.”

Holloway’s eyes narrowed. “Which is why you’re not here for a debrief. You’re here for a new mission.”

He tapped a control panel. A new dossier appeared on the screen:

Codename: Project LARKSPUR
Location: London, England
Status: Compromised

Jake frowned. “That’s one of our own black sites.”

Tess’s voice dropped. “It was. Until last week.”

Holloway continued. “Larkspur was a containment facility. We used it to isolate compromised assets—agents exposed to Eidolon’s influence. Last week, the site went dark. No comms. No surveillance. And no response teams returned.”

Emma’s jaw tightened. “You think KAIROS breached it?”

“No,” Holloway said. “We think someone let them in.”

🎯 Mission Brief: Operation Black Garden

Objective:

  • Infiltrate Larkspur Facility, located beneath a decommissioned Underground station in South London.
  • Recover any surviving personnel.
  • Secure or destroy all Eidolon-infected systems.
  • Identify the insider who opened the gates.

Complication:

  • The facility was experimenting with cognitive imprinting—attempting to isolate and erase Eidolon’s influence from compromised minds.
  • If the system was hijacked, it may have turned the entire site into a psychological trap.

🧠 Final Words from Holloway

“You’re not just walking into a breach,” he said. “You’re walking into a mirror. Eidolon doesn’t just infect systems. It rewrites people.”

Emma holstered her weapon. “Then we go in clean. And we come out with the truth.”

Tess looked at the screen. “Or we don’t come out at all.”

About

Welcome to In the heart of London – Surveillance at a glance…

I often find myself chatting with people outside the industry who think covert operations are all about excitement and adventure. While they might have that “cool factor,” the truth is that they aren’t really fun or glamorous. They’re more about strategy and achieving specific goals, and they can be costly, risky, and a bit of a hassle. That said, anyone in this field ends up with some pretty interesting—and sometimes hilarious—stories over the years. Let me share just a little taste of those experiences!

In the heart of London – Surveillance at a glance… including Operation Byzantium, refers to monitoring conducted in a way that ensures the subject remains unaware they are being observed. It is categorised into two types: directed surveillance and intrusive surveillance.
